Another amazing experience that we had in Maui was to watch the sunrise above the clouds from the volcano's summit in Haleakala National Park. We woke up at 2:00 in the morning to begin the trek, and we were to the summit early enough that we got to star gaze in the dark for a good hour before the sun began to rise. It was freezing up there! We huddled together and shivered all morning, but it was breathtakingly beautiful and so very worth it. I have yet to see a sunrise that I regretted, but this one was especially perfect. A camera couldn't do it justice!
As the sun started to rise, the crowd went silent while a local sang a native song in Hawaiian welcoming the new day and it was all so incredibly moving. Then to top it off, after the sunrise we got to ride bikes all the way back down the mountain!
AMAZEBALLS I tell you.
